This Web site presents information on the .frogans TLD, the top-level domain delegated by ICANN to the OP3FT, and whose DNS back-end registry operator is Identity Digital. This Web site is published by the OP3FT.

The .frogans TLD is the top-level domain delegated by ICANN to the OP3FT, a dedicated, independent, non-profit standards developing organization whose purpose is to hold, promote, protect and ensure the progress of the Frogans technology.
The Frogans technology is the basis of Frogans, the new medium for publishing content and services on the Internet in the form of Frogans sites. From a technical standpoint, this medium is designed as a new generic software layer running on top of the original Internet infrastructure, alongside other existing software layers such as E-mail or the World Wide Web. For more information, see the Frogans Technology Overview.
As discussed in the case study published by ICANN:
- The objective of the .frogans TLD is to ensure the security, stability, and reliability required for Frogans as a medium running on top of the Internet, for the benefit of all Internet users.
- The .frogans TLD domain names are only used to address the computers dedicated to the functioning and administration of Frogans as a medium.
- The key benefit in using a TLD instead of a second-level domain (e.g. frogans.net) is to gain maximum control over both the registration process and the resolution of these critical domain names.
- The OP3FT is the sole holder of domain names in the .frogans TLD registry.
- Frogans sites are accessed by means of identifiers called "Frogans addresses" with the following pattern: Network-Name*Site-Name. Frogans addresses may contain international characters and are defined by the IFAP (International Frogans Address Pattern) and FACR (Frogans Address Composition Rules) technical specifications.
- For more information about Frogans addresses, see the following presentations given during ICANN and IETF meetings:

ICANN 58:
Frogans addresses: a new security model for a new type of online publishing built on top of DNS
IETF 101:
Purpose of the addressing system of a medium for publishing content on the Internet
- The use of the .frogans TLD adheres to ICANN’s principles for keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable, while encouraging more innovation.
Questions and Answers on the .frogans TLD
1. What are the milestones in the development of the .frogans TLD?
The milestones in the development of the .frogans TLD are:
- December 19, 2023: the OP3FT and ICANN renew the .frogans TLD Registry Agreement
- August 22, 2018: Afilias (now Identity Digital) takes over as the DNS back-end registry operator for the operation of the .frogans TLD
- January 26, 2017: ICANN publishes a case study on the innovative use of the .frogans TLD
- November 7, 2014: the OP3FT signs Specification 13 (.Brand TLD Provisions) with ICANN
- April 19, 2014: the .frogans TLD is introduced into the DNS Root Zone of the Internet by IANA
- December 19, 2013: the OP3FT signs the Registry Agreement for the .frogans TLD with ICANN
- July 19, 2013: the .frogans TLD application passes the Initial Evaluation
- May 30, 2012: the OP3FT submits the application for the .frogans TLD to ICANN
- April 3, 2012: the OP3FT signs a DNS back-end registry operator contract with Afnic for the operation of the .frogans TLD
2. How many domain names are registered in the .frogans TLD registry?
There are five second-level domain names registered in the .frogans TLD registry:
- get.frogans: used to access the Web site to download Frogans Player, the free-of-charge software used to browse Frogans sites.
- fpb.frogans: used to bootstrap Frogans Player, in compliance with the FPBL (Frogans Player Bootstrap Language) technical specification.
- fpu.frogans: used to update Frogans Player, in compliance with the FPUL (Frogans Player Update Language) technical specification.
- fcr.frogans: used to access the Web site of the FCR (Frogans Core Registry) Operator as well as the addressing services provided by the FCR Operator. These services include notably the registration of Frogans addresses in the FCR in compliance with the FCR-MSI (FCR Multi-Stakeholder Interface) technical specification and the resolution of Frogans addresses in compliance with the FNSL (Frogans Network System Language) technical specification.
- nic.frogans: used for the technical operation of the .frogans TLD.
3. What makes the .frogans TLD stand out from other TLDs?
The .frogans TLD stands out from other TLDs because it makes possible a major innovation for publishing content and services on the Internet, while other TLDs, including the new gTLDs introduced into the DNS Root Zone since 2013, are mainly intended to provide creative domain names for accessing traditional Web sites.
The .frogans TLD domain names are only used to address the computers dedicated to the functioning and administration of Frogans as a medium. This use is inspired by the use of the .net TLD, as originally intended and specified by Internet pioneer Jon Postel in RFC 1591 (March 1994):
NET - This domain is intended to hold only the computers of network providers, that is the NIC and NOC computers, the administrative computers, and the network node computers. The customers of the network provider would have domain names of their own (not in the NET TLD).
